LOVE this lens. We took this to a wedding and on a 3 week model photography tour. At the wedding it was the ultimate for getting the perfect ring shot or amazing close-ups of the bride’s details. You can get deep into the velvety petals of a flower or make a basket of toothpicks look like a felled forest.

It wasn’t a bad lens for non-macro work, either. If I didn’t have other lenses to choose from for portraits, this would do very well. It focuses fast and accurately and you don’t have to be right on top of your subject.

The way it works on both macro and portrait subjects allows you to leave the one lens on the camera at a wedding and shoot both minute details and people at once without switching lenses. – Sarah Spencer-Antonino

The 100 2.8 macro is a lens we will definitely be buying. I love it for closeup but not SUPER closeup work. It’s a great distance for ring shots for weddings, texture details, bugs and other small details.

The biggest surprise for me was how great portraits came out. Shooting 2.8 is a big tight but this lens at f/8 for outdoor portraits with plenty of room to work is fabulous!
