Raising the bar once again for full-frame DSLR performance, Canon has created a technological masterpiece with the EOS 5D MK II.

Building on the pedigree of the proven EOS 5D, Canon increased the pixel count to an eye-popping 21.1 megapixels, added the computing power of a new DIGIC 4 processor, increased the standard ISO range to 6400 (up to ISO 25,600 is available), and perhaps most stunning of all, added the capability for 1080p full HD video.

This camera is simply amazing to work with, and the images (and video) it produces have to be seen to be believed.

Canon shooters, this is what you've been waiting for. Time to rejoice!

Noteworthy Features:

  • 21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with 14-bit color
  • Continuous shooting as fast as 3.9 frames-per-second:
  • Full HD Video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution (up to 4GB per clip)
  • Improved weather-resistant body and higher-durability shutter (150,000 cycles)
  • 3-inch 920,000-dot color LCD monitor with scratch-resistant and anti-glare coatings.
  • Built-in image sensor cleaning with updated performance for the full-frame sensor size./li>

Lots to like!, May, 11 2009

I rented this for a family trip. I've always wanted to try a 35mm sensor camera. I have a 20D, and wanted to compare to that. Overall, I'd say the 20D holds up well in terms of image quality, and only lags a bit on color noise. The 5D MkII definitely has a fair amount of color NR in jpgs; I had it set to low. However, if you like to crop, sheer megapixels win every time. I thought I missed the "lost" range on telephoto lenses, until I saw how much cropping potential there is. Focus seemed fairly reliable, but I wish the points were spread out a bit more. Overall- amazing detail, good colors, but I did have to deal with some dust bunnies at above F/8 or so, especially with clear blue skies. Olympus has spoiled me in that respect. Otherwise 5 stars. Will probably rent again!
Oh- did not use live view much, or movie mode at all..
