With an additional aperture blade to make out of focus areas even smoother, ultra-low dispersal lens elements to reduce chromatic aberration, even better weather sealing, better lens coatings to reduce ghosting and flare, and a zoom lock to prevent lens creep while shooting or transporting, the default workhorse of the Canon-wielding professional is better than ever. We've heard great things about improved edge-to-edge sharpness as well, and in our tests that's been our experience - so much so that it rivals many primes. It's also a bit smaller and lighter (we hear that collective shout of joy from the wedding photographer crowd).
