While not as fast as its sibling, the 85mm f/1.2L, that half stop difference allows this 85mm to focus faster, perform better optically while wide open, and stay much lighter. Plus, and this is a big one, this 85mm is Canon’s first and only 85mm fast prime with image stabilization. This allows you to shoot handheld MUCH further into the evening not only because of the fast f/1.4 aperture and 9 blade circular iris that produces deliciously pleasing bokeh, but also because of the 4 stops of image stabilization. Like all of Canon’s L glass, this lens is also dust and moisture resistant for those outdoor portrait shoots.
