Nikon Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S

Nikon has been hitting homerun after homerun with their telephoto lenses over the past few years. It started in the F-mount lineup, but fortunately for you Z-mount mirrorless shooters, it is continuing in that lens mount as well. This 400mm lens is a testament not only to how incredible a telephoto lens can be, but also a huge flex by Nikon to prove they can do it in a small & light package. Who knew you could have both? Apparently Nikon, that's who.

It is touted as Nikon's smallest and lightests 400mm to date, and while we haven't personally held them all, we have no reason to question that fact. Because of its size and weight, it is a true joy to use, being incredibly maneuverable and taking up little of the precious space in your camera bag. Naturally, Nikon has included all of their latest lens technologies such as ED, Super ED, and SR lens elements and Nano Crystal Coat for reduced flare and improved contrast.

The autofocus motors are a stepper design, creating fast and accurate focus movements while staying nearly silent. Plus, the internal vibration reduction improves hand-holdability (not a word, but we think you know what we mean) by up to 6 stops when paired with a Z body that has IBIS. Even on a non-stabilized body, the lens itself still provides 5.5 stops. The lens is compatible with both the 1.4x and 2.0x Z-mount teleconverters from Nikon and of course has the programmable control ring found on the Z lineup of lenses.
