A surprisingly versatile lens for crop-sensor shooters, the impressive zoom range of the Sony 18-105mm f/4 is an excellent rental option for shooting both stills and video, as long as you're using it on a crop-sensor body (or in Super-35 mode). The 18-105mm offers an extremely smooth zoom rocker switch for pleasing transitions. Internal focusing allows the lens to stay the same size even while zooming. Its optical coatings allow for chromatic aberration management, and its circular 7 blade aperture allow for pleasing out of focus rendition. We especially like this lens for "flying" on a gimbal, as it is compact and lightweight. This makes a great match for Sony's A6000-series of cameras or even a lightweight option for the FS7.
