Sony has produced a camera that we think is going to be an industry standard in a hurry. It is small, light, and most important: capable. This thing has some serious chops.
Immediately obvious is the full frame sensor that outputs 15+ stops and can record 10-bit 4:2:2 footage internally. Alternatively, you can choose up to 16-bit raw (like its big brother, the FX9). Frame rates are as high as 120p in 4K and 240p in HD. You also get S-Cinetone, S-Log3, S-Gamut3, and HLG gamma options for all the cinema color fidelity goodness you could ask for.
Other features include built-in ND filters (1/4 to 1/128, auto or manual), 2 XLR audio inputs, a 12G/6G/3G-SDI port, and dual card slots that each hold either SD cards or the new CFExpress Type A cards (Type B is not compatible).
We are especially impressed with the small size and weight of this unit, making it extremely versatile on any pro-cine set. You can pretty easily mount it to a huge variety of gimbals and drones (depending on lens, naturally), and we think it is going to make a great single-operator doc camera.
Just remember a few important points: 1) This is a full-frame camera, requiring FE lenses, and 2) It works with CFExpress Type A cards only, NOT CFExpress Type B.
